NYC - Day 3 - Museum of Natural History

On Saturday, the choir had dress rehearsal at Carnegie Hall. So exciting!

The choir at the hotel.
That afternoon they went to RiseNY where she learned a lot about the history of New York, including Broadway and rode on an all
The rest of us walked on the opposite side of Central park to get to the Museum of Natural History.

The Dakota - where John Lennon was assassinated.
Chatting with Lincoln outside the New York Historical Society.
Brownstones.
We met Morgan Nebeker for bagels. She's the daughter of Tiff's best friend and has a special relationship with Grammy & Grandad.
Once again, the bagels were sublime. So warm and with a choice of cream cheese or honey butter.
Dad had mentioned that when he was a missionary, they had met in a building on the other side of Central Park. It used to be a Jewish synagogue. I had done some internet research and found out there was a building where the first Spanish branch had met in that same area and it had been a synagogue. I figured it had to be the same building and it was right around the corner from the museum. We tracked it down - and it was the right place! So exciting. I'm so glad we were able to find it for Dad. It was under construction so we couldn't go inside.
Of course, Dad had to get some dirt.
Then it was time for the museum. This is the main entrance. We didn't use it because we used the disabled entrance.
Dad's knee was hurting so we put him on mom's scooter and put her in one of the museum's wheelchairs. I don't think we would have made it otherwise. It did Dad's knee good to have a break.
We started with the dinosaur bones. So cool!
We had watched Night at the Museum before the trip and tried to find many things from the movie in the museum.
The animal displays were cool and I think they've been the same for decades.
Armor made out of plants.
Looks like something out of Star Wars.
Sipán Tomb Excavation from pre-Columbian Peru. The central figure is flanked by two male guards with women at his head and feet. A fifth person is keeping guard in the wall at the head of the tomb. The fact that they're green shows that they were covered with something metallic. This supports the idea that there was a lot of gold and other metalwork in Peru at this time.
Inside a tomb. You can see how bright the colors were. On the outside of tombs these colors have faded.
Cool whale.
Most complete stegosaurus ever uncovered. This is new to the museum.
Jalen loves rocks. This looked like something from Superman. So cool!
Jalen was blown away by this giant geode.
Another gorgeous geode.
Meteorite
Mom loved the hall with Alaska artifacts because she spent part of her childhood there and her dad was fascinated by the native culture.
Hanging out with Teddy Rosevelt.
We spent hours and hours at the museum.
The choir went to Planet Hollywood for dinner, but we weren't interested in that. We decided to get some New York pizza. Great decision!
And of course - more cheesecake! (Good, but not as good as Junior's.)
Proof of life from Baylie. We hardly ever saw her.
With April's daughter, Ava.
Rockefeller Center
Streets of New York
Times Square
Radio City Music Hall
Alexa took some cool photos of skyscrapers in the fog.
It was another wonderfully exhausting day.
