What do you guys think about going private? I'm wondering if I'm overexposing my child by making this blog accessible to anyone. I'm interested in opinions...
I feel safe not being private. I have changed some settings on blogger that you might want to look into (if you haven't already). Under the Basic tab in Settings you can make sure your blog is not listed and not searched for. From the dashboard, you can edit your profile. I have unlinked my blog from my profile. I found that if I left comments on someone's blog they could link back to my blog. I didn't want that. You can also monitor some aspects of your blog readers profiles with Google Analytics. It tells you where people are reading your blog and how long they are there. I hope that helps. It's easier for me to keep up with the non-private blogs since I really a lot on Google Reader to tell me which blogs are updated, etc.
First of all, I'm so happy for you. I can't imagine all of this happening to a better person and I'm sure you'll be a marvelous mom.
On to your question of privacy. You might monitor your site stats to see how many visitors you're getting. If you're getting more than you're comfortable with, or traffic from an audience you'd prefer not to get it from, then I'd take the blog private. (Though I'm not sure they way blogger is set up.) Another option is to explore Vox () as your blog host. Vox allows you to set permissions of who can and cannot see your blog.
One of the great things about "mommy blogs" is that as a whole, they're a great community builder, especially in a culture where the experience of motherhood can be isolating. And in terms of keeping up with people, they're awesome. How else would I get to see all those cute baby pictures and read your beautiful words? (When I'm up in the wee hours of the morning!)

"really" was supposed to be "rely"

Thanks to you both for the advice. Thanks!
If you go private, please invite me. It is too fun to see you, David and your sweet baby AND I love to read your writing! Happy Mothering!
Based on the advice above, I don't plan to go private for now.
