Adjusting

There are two questions I get asked most frequently: 1) Are you getting any sleep? 2) How is Baylie adjusting?

1) When we first got Baylie, people would always ask if we were sleep deprived. I'd say yes and think that people sure had exaggerated how tired you get after having a baby. I didn't think it was really that bad. At that point, I just assumed most babies slept six hours at a time at night. After the first few nights, we only had to get up with Baylie once a night and before long, not at all. Even now, she sleeps 10-12 hours a night.

Well, things have certainly changed! Jalen sleeps 2-3 hours at a time at night. Even when he's asleep, he usually won't stay asleep if we set him down. During the day he's a great sleeper, usually going four hours. Fortunately, David is a great help and we trade off, each sleeping half the night and watching Jalen the other half. It's probably harder on David than me, since I'm used to being a night owl.

2) Baylie LOVES Jalen. The first thing she says when she wakes up in the morning or from her nap is "Baby Brudder?" She hugs him and says "Cute!" Unfortunately, she also gouges his eyes and says "Pretty eyes." (I wonder if that's because so many people have said that to her.) She loves to hug him and tries to share her toys with him. He's pretty patient about it all. She does seem to want to be held everytime I'm feeding him, but overall there has been very little jealousy.

Ready for the Superbowl.

My personal favorite.

Congrats! I love the pics, especially your favorite. I can't believe I missed the whole process. Wishing you the very best as you all adjust to another member of the family. They grow up and things settle down, so don't lose hope. Even on those days where it seems like you'll never sleep again :) I loved night feedings with Elli because it was the only time I spent time with just her. Sammi had the same knack for needing to be help whenever I was feeding Elli :)

I LOVE ALL OF THE PICTURES!!
I can't believe Baylie was such a good baby! What a blessing for you, even today with her wonderful sleeping habits.
I know what you mean. Miles woke every three hours till his was more than 6 months old. I hope Jalen adjusts faster than my little guy did.
Baylie will get the hang of being gentle with her baby's eyes in time. That is so sweet that she asks for him every time she wakes! I am glad she has not had jealousy issues. That is a blessing.
That is so hard that he won't stay asleep if you put him down! I had a similar experience for a week and a half with Amelia and got NOTHING done! Do you have a baby sling? A vibrating seat?? Have you tired to really swaddle him and put a stuffed animal next to him so he feels that pressure next to him when he set down?? Just some ideas. Good luck with everything. I am happy to hear things are going well!
