Hair Day With Mrs. Turner

Our amazing new music teacher has also become a sweet friend. She loves Baylie and we love her. She came over on a Saturday and spent eight hours doing Baylie's hair. We learned lots of new tips!

The products
The shampoo
The conditioner (Baylie was happier than she appears).
Trying out the hot head - we ended up ordering one.
Let's do the twist.
Untwisting
 Final product!!
Baylie was a little concerned that it was so big, but in the end, she loved it. And so did I. I love her curls!

School & Other Stuff

Jalen participated in the 3rd grade program at school. They sang most of their songs in foreign languages.

First, they performed for the school
We love Mrs. Turner, the new music teacher.
Jalen's favorite song was the German lullaby.
Later that night, they performed for parents. Jalen started out wearing an Argentine poncho.
The poncho did not survive to the end of the program.
That same night Baylie was recognized for making the honor roll.

We dressed up for Dr. Seuss Day. (My sweet friend Esther made me a shirt!)
Baylie matched her amazing teacher, Mrs. Buff. (Her first name is Pollyanna - how awesome is that?!)
Baylie fell through the tramp!
And Jalen created a "death trap." He says he's going to be a mad scientist.
Baylie is on the morning news show - WBEE - at school.

Caper's Island

One of the things I missed most last year was being able to go on field trips with my kids, so I determined that this year I would not miss them. Turns out that both my kids have field trips to Charleston. Awesome! Expensive!

Baylie's was to Caper's Island - a barrier reef of the coast. And it was amazing. The kids studied for several weeks before the trip and they were so prepared. I was very impressed with their knowledge and so were our guides. They definitely knew way more than me.

One of my favorite things about field trips is hanging out with my friends.

Me and Yasmin
Me and April
 Me and Baylie
Me and What's His Name
Pelican
The kids stood on the deck and listened while the guide scooped out samples off the dock and pointed out oysters.
Then he had them lay down on the dock and scoop out their own samples.
You squirt these little animals and they spray water.
Gross!
We took a boat ride to the barrier island.
On the way we saw dolphins. This area is called the shark hole because there are also lots of sharks here, but they swim deeper in the water and fish from below.
The guide pulled up a crab trap.
Blue crab and I can't remember the other one, but it's pincer could cut your finger off.
Tower left from WW2 when it was used to try and spot U-boats.
Not sure what this was, but it looked cool in an isolated kind of way.
Dead jellyfish.
Learning about erosion and accretion (a word I learned on the field trip).
The barrier island has what's referred to as a bone beach. It's what a beach looks like when it's untouched by man. It was so stark and beautiful. There was more driftwood than usual because of recent hurricanes. The trees were fascinating with all the roots exposed. And the shells were huge. Each person was allowed to take one thing back with them. It had to be dead, couldn't stink and couldn't be wood.
Hollow log
Mini waterfall
Probably the biggest shell of the day.
The ride back. Baylie spent most of the day with Vell. And of course we always love Alexa.
It was freezing cold, but such an amazing, memorable day. I'm so glad I got to share it with Baylie.
