Road Trip Day 9 - Manhattan

Tuesday was our day in the Big Apple. We had a fabulous day. We walked until we dropped.

We started out from Upper Montclair, NJ, where we were lucky enough to stay at the home of friends. It was about a 40 minute ride in NYC and was the highlight of Jalen's trip.
The train took us to Lincoln Center. David posed in front of the Met.
Our first stop was the LDS temple. We walked back and forth a couple of times before we realized it was right across the street!
I didn't realize that it had an Angel Moroni on top. So cool to see this right in busy Manhattan.
I love how peaceful it is to go to the temple. It was amazing to walk in off the street and just feel the peace and beauty of this place. (And seriously, the best place to use the bathroom in NYC because it's so clean.)
They had works of art from the Book of Mormon that I had never seen before. Truly beautiful paintings.

We shared some mammoth pretzels - huge and tasty!
We took a little stroll through Central Park.
I love the unique and often hidden architecture of Manhattan.
The building in the back looks like cubes.
The Plaza Hotel
Baylie is our shopper and she was in heaven on 5th Avenue.

She wanted to go into a store so we went and looked at the Tiffany Diamond.
Outside and inside Trump Tower.

Churches

Saks
Window shopping at the Lego Store.
The Lego cars actually run on the roller coaster.
Rockefeller Center

Hot dogs for lunch!

 Times Square
And then we got to ride the subway! Another highlight for Jalen.
I love the mosaics in the subway stations.
Then it was off to the Statue of Liberty.

Tickets to the crown were sold out through October, but we were able to get tickets to the pedestal. The kids took the stairs with David and I waited for the elevator.
We took a quick trip through the museum.
We got a bite to eat. David got some kind of mega burger with two hamburger patties, a slice of ham and an onion ring. He's cad
Bak on the ferry to Ellis Island.

 Staten Island Ferry
Why don't I ever get tired of taking pictures of her??
I LOOVE Ellis Island. I find it a spirtitual and emotional place. Unfortunately, my family was pooped out so we skipped it this time.

Fishing.
Our next stop was the Empire State Building. It was ridiculously expensive ($140 something for the four of us) and I'm still not sure it was worth it. I'm not sure the kids really cared about it. It was a bit misty, but the view was still awesome.
Nike swoosh.
The lights were coming on near the end of our visit.
New York at night.
Back to Penn Station.
We were in the city for about 12 hours. The time flew by. We did everything we wanted to except for Ground Zero. Our feet were killing us and we spent waaaaay more money than planned, but it was a fantastic day.
