Patio Gardening

For most of our married life, David and I have tried to grow a garden. In Houston it was mostly a disaster and we spent more on the garden than if we had just bought the produce. In Orem, we didn't have much space, but what we planted grew really well.

So now in South Carolina, we're doing our first experiment with patio gardening. We planted it this past weekend. Our deck gets lots of good sunlight, so hopefully it will work. We've planted tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, basil, spinach, green onions, carrots and pole beans. (I think Jalen may have ruined the pole beans because I caught him eating the dirt from that container.)

It's not much, but we'll see how it does. I also turned our empty wipe containers into flower boxes. Our deck looks pretty cheery right now. It looks out on the parking lot, but we chose our apartment that way for several reasons (cost, children's ability to escape, etc.), plus the other side of the apartments doesn't get much sunlight.

And to help me not feel homesick, this is what my parent's backyard looked like last weekend.

Yeah, not missing Utah so much right now.
