It took 15 hours on Saturday, but we finally made it home. It's always nice to get back and sleep in our own beds, although we miss family and the kids are blessing "the tramp" every night (the trampoline, not a hobo family member).
We had an interesting experience on the way home. While we waited for our flight from Chicago to Columbia (delayed several hours), we realized that there was a group of Army soldiers also booked on our flight. They weren't in uniform, but their camo backpacks and buzzed haircuts gave them away. I observed them as they chatted with two brothers who were about 9 and 11. They were so kind to the boys, actively listening and showing interest in them. The boys were obviously idolizing the soldiers. It made me proud to see these young soldiers behaving in such a way.
When our flight was finally ready to go, we were the last to board because they weren't sure they'd have enough seats for us. Our seats were scattered on three different rows. I asked the woman seated in row 3 if she would be willing to trade so I could sit by one of my children. She rolled her eyes and made it obvious she wasn't interested, so I continued back to our other seats in rows 8 and 9, leaving David to sit by her. (Sometimes I wonder if people like her have children, or remember what it was like to be a child. All the seats on the plane were aisles and windows, so it wasn't like I was asking her to sit in a middle seat.) When I got to row 8, it was an exit row, so my kids couldn't sit there. The flight attendant let me know they couldn't sit there, but didn't offer any alternatives.
I was agitated and stressed out because I knew we were holding everyone up. Just then, three or four of the soldiers stood up and offered to trade. They worked it out among themselves so that I could sit by both Jalen and Baylie. I almost cried. They did it without any fanfare, but with such courtesy. Again, I was really impressed by them and proud to have them represent our country.
At some point during the flight, it hit me that one of these soldiers could die in action. I don't know why, but for the first time, the sacrifice our soldiers make hit home to me. I've had family members serve, but for some reason, this seemed more personal - more probable, and it made me very sad. How many young men like them, of their caliber, do we lose to war? They are real people, with families, friends, loved ones and little boys that idolize them. I am grateful to them. I wish they were all safe.

Utah Trip/Family Reunion - Day 10 (Friday)
Today was supposed to be the day we flew home, but our flights were full, so we stayed an extra day. That meant we got to go with the rest of the family to see Disney Pixar's new movie - Brave. We (okay, all of us but David) loved it, but it was a little scary. I loved the hair! It's amazing what they do with animation these days. I had great plans to take a picture of all the cousins (there were 11 of them) sitting in a row to watch the movie, but I forgot. Ironically, having kids has really cut into my photo taking.
After the movie, we went to Sammy's - our new favorite place to go for real pie shakes. They are delicious!
It is going to be hard to go home tomorrow. David and I are ready to be in our own place and sleep in our own bed, but we're really going to miss the family. The kids don't want to go home. They want to stay with their cousins and are very upset that we don't have a trampoline.
I am going to miss being around grass that is fun to play on!

Utah Trip/Family Reunion - Day 9 (Thursday)
We decided to spend the day at Seven Peaks, a super fun water resort in Provo. It is pretty much impossible to take many pictures at Seven Peaks when you have a two year old who thinks he can swim, so this is it.
Later that night we all went to the Manti pageant. The Manti Temple is in the background. This is where David and I were married and where we later returned to have Baylie and later Jalen sealed to us for time and all eternity. This is a special place for us. Usually it's freezing cold to watch the pageant, but the weather was perfect and we had a great day. This is the closest I came to getting an extended family picture. Oh well, I tried!

Utah Trip/Family Reunion - Day 8 (Wednesday)
I'll call yesterday "crash day" since we pretty much just recuperated and crashed - particularly me. As usual, I slept through a movie.
Today we spent the morning playing. Jalen had a lot of fun wearing dress ups that didn't involve tutus or princesses attire. We do need more time in boy costumes since he was dressed as a cowboy, but kept saying, "Ahoy, matey!"
Kolton and Jalen
Afterwards we went to the rodeo. It's always a good show.
Baylie, me, Jalen and David
Ava, Beth, Nixon and Scott
Clara and Baylie
Kolton, Camden and Lauryn
Parker, Erik, Asher and Shanelle
We have had so much fun with family. I can't believe tomorrow is our last day. I'm going to be so homesick when it's time to go back.

Utah Trip/Family Reunion - Day 6 (Monday)
Today was probably the funnest day so far. We went to Park City Mountain Resort. There were 25 of us, so we got an awesome discount. We had planned on going for a couple, maybe three, hours. It opens at 11, we got there at about 11:30 a.m. and stayed until they closed at 8:00 p.m.! What a day!
We did the Alpine Slide
Camden, David and Jalen (Camden had the record for slowest speed ever)

">The coaster was a big hit with everyone. There weren't many lines, so they would hop off and get right back on again.
Cameron, Riley, Parker, Clara, Hailey, Lauryn, Clark
Lauryn, Clark, Jalen, David, Camden, Molly

Kolton, Erik, Ava, Scott, Asher, Beth (Shanelle from the back)
Asher, Beth, Tiff, Shanelle (Lily on the sidelines)
;">There was also an area for little kids with a carousel, airplane and train rides. Here the kids also went from one ride to another, over and over again. There was also a bounce house slide, rock wall, climbing stone, spider web and miniature golf.
Asher and Jalen

;">The zip line was also a big hit with everyone. There was a shorter one that the kids could ride with parents and a longer one that was just for the older kids and parents.
David and Baylie
I didn't ride anything but the chair lift. I'm a coward. The round trip chair lift ride took about an hour. David and I went by ourselves and it was nice to get a little alone time. (Kissing up high in the sky is fun.)
;">
;">When we got home, all the kids jumped in the hot tub.
How many kids can fit in a hot tub? At least 12!
The water was looking pretty sketchy by the time they were finished.

Utah Trip/Family Reunion - Day 5 (Sunday)
Then we had a sharing time where we acted out stories from Family History. We all learned a lot about our ancestors and it was a lot of fun.
Batman was not a part of our family history, but Jalen was in love with this costume.
We played family Hollywood Squares.
We got matching t-shirts and we Skyped with Grammy and Grandad on their mission.
We ate our dads' favorite desserts.
And we had a wonderful family testimony meeting. Have I mentioned lately how much I love my family?P.S. Jalen and Asher continued to hone their photography skills by stealing my camera whenever possible. They do seem to be improving.

Utah Trip/Family Reunion - Day 4 (Saturday)
Today has been a super fun, wild and crazy day. There is nothing we like more than hanging out with family.
Uncle David has unlimited patience and loves playing with the kids. Here he is in the middle of a marathon Star Wars Monopoly game.
Baylie snuggled right up to her cousin Asher. They have been best friends since birth. (They are exactly a month apart.)We all met at a great park in Park City where the kids burned energy on the best playground I have ever seen. It was fantastic.
Jalen went mountain biking with his Uncle Clark. He had some helmet issues.
Jalen and Lauryn got up close and personal.
Nixon and Cameron.
Getting football tips from Uncle Erik.
Then we came to Heber to stay in this AMAZING house. It is huge and has more than enough room for all 25 of us.
Hot tub.
Lily on a chair made of wood. It actually has a conveniently placed hole that makes you wonder if it was ever used for alternate purposes.
Bearskin rug.
Loft overlooking mounted animals and antler chandelier.
Home theater.
Billiards
Pizza-fest.
My brother Clark on a Costco run. We like to eat.
Today I really missed my mom and dad.
