These are my parents on the day they got married, 46 years ago today. I am so grateful for their example. They went on their first date on a Friday, got engaged that Sunday and got married two months later. I always joke that had they dated longer, they wouldn't have married because they have nothing in common. My dad played college football; my mom didn't know the difference between offense and defense (not sure she does now - just kidding). My mother had (still has) a beautiful singing voice and sang with orchestras and with BYU performing groups; my dad thought classical music meant the Statler Brothers.
I am so grateful for parents that stayed married. I am so grateful for an example of working out problems even when things are difficult. I am so grateful for parents that stayed faithful to one another, emotionally and physically. I am so grateful for parents that stood up for one another and never sided with me when I was angry at one or the other of them. When I used to complain about my mom, my dad would say, "You are talking about the woman I love." How do you argue with that?
This has always been one of my favorite pictures. My mom looks so beautiful and my dad has no idea what he's getting into.
My dad asked my mom out on that first date because she had (still has) great legs. I wish I had inherited those legs! Here are my parents today, serving a mission in North Carolina. They are still a great example to me - and now to my little family as well.
I love them so much.
