Dr. David

Today was a huge day at the Batchelor Pad. David defended his dissertation. This was the culmination of 14 years of study and incredibly hard work. It has comprised the almost 13 years of our marriage.

The kids and I dropped David off about an hour before the defense was to start and then I took them to the big downtown library. We hadn't been there for over a year and the kids walked in like they had arrived at Disneyland. The librarians remembered them and it was wonderful to be back.
Outside the School of Music the week we moved to Columbia.
Meanwhile, David learned that he had overlooked an e-mail attachment that had feedback from one of his professors. The professor thought David had just ignored his comments. Not a great beginning. Fortunately, David was able to explain what had happened and all was well. The professors all signed off on the paper and David just has to make some minor revisions by Monday. But for all intents and purposes - he is done! Graduation is in August, so he won't get hooded until then. Maybe it will feel more real then because now it just feels weird.
Outside the School of Music today.
It's hard to believe how much our family has changed in the time we have been here. It really came home today when I saw pictures of our kids taken the same day as the picture of David in front of the School of Music. Our kids have truly grown up here in Columbia.
Time has truly flown by.
And the adventure continues.

Hooray!!! The dissertation was horrible. I took me 3-4 years but I was also in residency at the time so I couldn't devote as much time as I wanted to. Defending was so scary but what a relief to be done!! Tell him good job for me!
