BYU Campus Tour

While in Utah, we scheduled an official BYU campus tour for Baylie. She really hopes to go there in a couple of years. Even though I've spent a lot of time on campus, it has changed a lot since then. The tour was very informative and I was impressed with so much of the information that was shared.

We signed up for the golf cart tour. You can tour in a cart or by foot. It took about an hour for the court tour. The on foot tour goes inside buildings rather than just outside. Our guide was terrific.
Check out that Y in the background.
The Harold B. Lee Library - the glass portion was not there when I was in school.
Spencer W. Kimball Tower - where I worked for the Church's Research and Development Department my last year of school.
Engineering Building - look at those mountains! (I think the Engineering Department is in a new building now.)
Student housing - so much nicer than when I lived there.
Such a beautiful campus.
Basketball's Marriott Center
Baseball and football stadiums
After the tour, we decided to walk through some of the buildings. Only at the BYU library would there be a Family-Friendly study room. This would have been handy when my dad was getting his doctorate.
Lego exhibit in the library
Provo City Center Temple
The Last Supper
Hotel Utah
Salt Lake Temple
The Tabernacle
Assembly Hall
We wanted to see the big statue of Po that a Disney animator and BYU graduate donated to the school after working on the movie.
The BYU animations department has earned a lot of rewards. There is a floor to ceiling screen where you can see different versions of live pictures of yourself. This is a mosaic version.
Some interesting facts about BYU I didn't know and learned on the tour.

  • One of the largest study abroad programs in the world with over 2,000 students participating
  • One of the best foreign language programs in the country. Students speak 121 different languages and 60% of the student body is bi-lingual, the largest percentage in the country.
  • The college of nursing has a mannequin that gives birth!
  • The engineering school has designed a car that can go from Utah to New York on one gallon of gas.
My parents both graduated from BYU. When I was an adolescent, we returned in the summers for my dad to get his doctorate. I got my bachelors there and David got his masters there. I love the school. I hope Baylie will be able to go there too.
