Write Your Congressman About Adoption

I've been really disappointed to learn that Congress is planning to reduce or do away with the Adoption Tax Credit. Adoptions are incredibly expensive (most range from 20-30K). While a biological mother can obtain insurance to cover the cost of having a baby, adoptive parents hardly ever have this option. There are very few financial options open to adoptive parents. One of the few glimmers of light has been the Adoption Tax Credit. I am frustrated that Congress would not support this initiative to help families.

How frustrating! When they were voting to not have the adoption tax credit expire until it was used up (so adoptive parents could use it over many years rather than the 10 (it think its 10)), I wrote my representatives asking them to vote YES. Looks like more letters are in order.
Thanks for letting me know about this.

I was just reading about this and thinking I need to put it on my blog. So many people will no longer be able to adopt if they get rid of this...

Wow...because that would make sense? Wouldn't it make far more sense to encourage families to adopt so that less children would live their lives in the system? If that is the only place Congress can think to tighten up the budget I have a few suggestions for them!

Kristin, I want to post this on adoption voices. Is it ok if I copy and past a large part of your post to the AV post?
